


Dr. Sargent is in his first year as Director of Bands at Moody
High School. Prior to his arrival at Moody, Dr. Sargent served as Assistant
Professor of Music at Samford University, where he directed the athletic band
program, taught applied trumpet, music appreciation, ear-training, brass
methods, brass chamber ensembles, and performed as a member of the Samford
faculty brass quintet. After
spending his
childhood in nearby Trussville, Dr. Sargent attended The University
of Alabama, where he earned a degree in instrumental music education. After
teaching in the Blount County Public School System, Dr. Sargent served as a
graduate assistant at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he
received the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in trumpet
performance.
Dr. Sargent is an active freelance trumpeter,
having performed with
the Tuscaloosa, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Roanoke, and Alabama Symphony
Orchestras, as a member of the Super-Jazz Big Band, as a member of the Blue Lake
Fine Arts Camp faculty in Twin Lake, Michigan, as a local trumpeter in touring
Off-Broadway productions, and as a member of the Samford faculty brass quintet.
In addition, Dr. Sargent has performed as a semi-finalist in the
master’s division of the National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, Virginia. He
enjoys life with his family on their farm near Ashville.
